Ring Explains Video Search and Controls for Fewer Alerts

Ring’s intelligent features require compatible subscriptions and devices. Owners can check available options through Pro Features in the Ring App.

Search recordings and choose which alerts arrive

The quick read
  • Video Search finds recorded objects or activity.
  • Intelligent features require a compatible Ring subscription and supported device.
  • Check Pro Features in the Ring App for your available options.

Ring has published an explanation of its intelligent features. The company says Video Search can locate recorded activity or objects, while Video Descriptions provides written accounts of events (opens in a new tab). Access requires an eligible subscription and a supported Ring camera or video doorbell; owners manage settings in the Ring App.

Ring says Single Event Alert (beta) merges similar notifications from an individual device into one notification. Its Unusual Event Alerts (beta) feature uses Video Descriptions to learn typical activity and flag changes, according to the company.

According to Ring, sharing footage also sends the accompanying Video Descriptions text. The company says enabling Active Warnings lets devices automatically tell visitors that recording is underway, with identifying details included.

Check your device before enabling features

To check support, open the Ring App menu and select Pro Features, where compatible devices show their available options. Owners can switch features individually, use Turn On All or Turn Off All for combined control, and choose Manage Devices for settings on individual devices. Setup can also prompt users to review and consent to feature use.

Familiar Faces needs both a compatible Ring subscription and a supported Ring device with 2K or 4K resolution. It adds names to alerts when it recognizes people the owner has identified in the Ring App, although Ring says the model and surroundings may affect recognition range and accuracy. Without a subscription, Ring devices still provide Live View, Two-Way Talk, motion notifications and Customizable Motion Zones.
