Say what we tested. Know when to stop.

A review is written by the person who used the product. It states the dates we tested it, how the unit reached us, whether as a brand sample, a retail purchase or a loan, and how many of the photographs are our own. The score summarizes the verdict; the pros, the cons and the text explain it. We never claim a test we did not run.

A deal page records the price we checked, the reference it is compared with, whether a list price, a typical price or a previous price, and when it was checked. When a price may have ended, the page says so.

News stories link to the original notice or announcement they report. A recall story points to the official notice, which lists the affected models and the remedy.

We identify hazards before suggesting a check. Live power, gas, refrigerant, moving parts, unsafe access and other hazardous work are not tasks authorized by a guide. We separate user-accessible maintenance from work for an appropriate qualified professional.

We begin with the behavior a reader can see, hear or confirm through normal controls. A model number, error message and timing help define the question. We do not diagnose a failed component from a single symptom.

Manufacturer documentation, official support material, public agency guidance and other original sources establish the scope. We check that each material claim fits the documented model and procedure. If a claim is unsupported, we omit it or explain the uncertainty.

Explanatory illustrations are distinguished from product photographs. No illustration is presented as a photograph of a product we tested.

Research is supported by its sources. Hands-on findings appear only where the experience is documented; we do not invent repairs or service history.

Paid placements carry a label. If a link can earn HouseTuned an affiliate commission, an accompanying disclosure explains that relationship. Commercial interests do not justify an unsupported claim.

Reported errors are checked against the article and original sources. Material mistakes are corrected, with significant changes explained on the page.
