The quick read
  • Ring Smart Lock has a power dial for recharging by hand if its battery dies.
  • Ring plans U.S. purchase availability in early 2027.
  • Installation fits a standard single-cylinder deadbolt without extra wiring.

Ring announced Ring Smart Lock today with a built-in power dial that owners can turn to recharge the lock when its battery dies (opens in a new tab). Ring says a few turns restore power, giving someone arriving home a way to power the lock at the door.

Ring plans to make Ring Smart Lock available for U.S. buyers in early 2027, with brass, black and silver finishes. The lock still needs authorization from the Federal Communications Commission before it can be offered for sale or sold.

Ring Smart Lock replaces key entry with four unlocking options, including Alexa and a fingerprint reader. Owners can also unlock through the Ring app or use a touchscreen keypad with backlighting. For installation, the lock fits a standard single-cylinder deadbolt without requiring extra wiring.

Remote access uses Amazon Sidewalk

Ring says owners will be able to use its app to check the lock's status and lock the door remotely. Access permissions will let them choose who can enter, which entry method they use and when permission expires, including access restricted to a recurring weekly window.

For its connection, Ring Smart Lock uses Amazon Sidewalk, which draws on nearby Amazon devices to form a shared network. Ring says that connection handles PIN syncing, remote locking and status updates without depending on household Wi-Fi, while unlocking takes place on the lock itself. Amazon says Sidewalk coverage may differ by location and may change or be interrupted.

Ring says Ring Smart Lock will connect with its cameras, alarms and doorbells, with activity appearing in the Ring app feed. The lock will also support voice commands through Alexa and Amazon Echo.
