Seven accessories are coming to Apple Home

The quick read
  • LG and Apple co-developed seven accessories for the Apple Home Collection.
  • The United States and Canada rollout starts in December, with select accessories coming early next year.
  • Using the products requires an Apple home hub and Wi-Fi.

LG today announced seven accessories co-developed with Apple for the Apple Home Collection, spanning home monitoring, door access and temperature control (opens in a new tab). Launches in the United States and Canada are scheduled to start in December, with select accessories following early next year. The products support the LG ThinQ and Apple Home apps.

The United Kingdom rollout begins in December with cameras for indoor and outdoor use, plus a video doorbell. Owners need Wi-Fi and an Apple home hub, such as HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K, to use the new accessories. Feature support and compatibility depend on the model and location.

Controls for rooms and the front door

LG Indoor Cam Plug-In offers a 160° viewing angle, physical controls and a mechanism that tilts the camera for privacy. LG says a scene controlled through Siri or the Home app can change the thermostat setting and tilt the indoor camera downward together. Users can exclude chosen areas from camera viewing and recording, and the cameras include local storage.

LG Video Doorbell Wired pairs a front-facing 2.5K camera with a bottom-facing Full HD camera to show visitors and packages separately. LG Smart Deadbolt Lock supports hands-free entry using Ultra-Wideband and home key with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch. Other entry options include a physical key, a PIN and an NFC tap.

According to LG, LG Smart Thermostat can use Apple's Adaptive Temperature to adjust heating and cooling when users are heading home, away or asleep. Optional LG Temperature Sensor devices measure humidity and temperature in additional rooms. Supported utility integrations can move thermostat operation to periods with lower costs. LG says footage and personal information stored within the Home app use end-to-end encryption, preventing access by either LG or Apple.
