The quick read
  • Arlo announced Threat Assessment and Arlo Summary with Arlo Secure 7.
  • Arlo says existing Early Warning System customers will receive both features within the coming month.
  • The new Ultra Secure plan supports continuous recording on a maximum of three cameras and retains footage for 30 days.
  • Only select product purchases include the month-long trial; continued premium access requires payment afterward.

Arlo announced Arlo Secure 7 today, the next version of its AI-powered smart security service, built around two new features for people already running Arlo cameras and doorbells (opens in a new tab). Arlo says existing Early Warning System customers will receive Threat Assessment and Arlo Summary within the coming month. The company also used the release to introduce a new plan tier aimed at households that want continuous recording instead of clip-by-clip events.

Threat Assessment is the bigger change for anyone who leaves cameras armed while away. Arlo says it separates events that carry a potential threat from everyday activity and then triggers a response matched to the severity, from turning on a camera siren or spotlight to contacting a live Safety Agent. The company says it can escalate to a professional monitoring center for emergency dispatch, and that critical push notifications will break through Mute and do-not-disturb settings. Arlo lists break-ins, fire, armed threats and theft among the situations the feature is built to identify.

Arlo says users can request a recap covering the preceding 24 hours. Arlo Summary is designed to omit routine activity and place a written summary atop the Arlo Feed. Arlo CEO Matthew McRae framed both features as a response to how slowly households learn about trouble: "We saw an industry-wide need for sharper insights, faster awareness, and proactive escalation to reduce response time when consumers need it most".

What the new plan costs you in storage and cameras

The Arlo Ultra Secure Plan is the new option for continuous recording. It covers 24/7 recording on up to three cameras, with recordings kept for 30 days, and Arlo says support for unlimited cameras is coming soon. That camera cap is the detail to check before switching plans if your setup has grown past three units.

Three Arlo Secure Early Warning System plans are available now: Smart Aware, Smart Secure and Ultra Secure. A one-month trial of Arlo Secure comes with select Arlo products, and premium features require a paid subscription once that trial ends. Arlo did not publish plan prices in the announcement, pointing instead to its website for the full list.

Arlo also lists existing tools for recognizing familiar faces and vehicles, detecting packages and flames, and searching recordings by keyword.
