Aqara's FP400 Presence Sensor Adds Thread and Zigbee

Aqara has announced worldwide availability (opens in a new tab) of its Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400. Sales channels include the company's website, authorized stores and Amazon in selected countries, including the US and UK. Aqara positions the FP400 for home automation and its FP400 Pro variant for assisted living and elder care.

The pitch is presence sensing without a camera. Aqara says the FP400 uses a 60GHz mmWave radar and its AI Spatial Learning software to read occupancy, movement and context rather than just motion, which the company says supports more granular automations. It is a different approach for households that want room-level awareness but would rather not put cameras in living spaces.

What it covers and how it connects

Aqara says one FP400 covers a space up to 10m x 8m, roughly 860 sq ft, with a 120° field of view, and that users can define up to 8 zones for localized automation. The radar can count and track up to 10 people at once, according to the company, and an onboard ambient light sensor can trigger scenes based on lighting as well as activity.

The FP400 offers native connectivity through Thread or Zigbee, plus Matter support. Aqara lists compatible ecosystems including Apple Home and Home Assistant. According to Aqara, setup through its Aqara Home app can work without the company's hub when a third-party Thread Border Router has already been configured; availability varies with the device or platform. Connecting to third-party Matter platforms through Zigbee requires an Aqara hub. For third-party integrations through Thread, the exposed readings are limited to overall presence and illuminance, with one sensor for each.

Aqara says the sensing algorithm is tuned to cut false triggers from pets, airflow and robot vacuums, and that AI-assisted mapping detects room boundaries and entrances during setup. The sensor can be mounted on a ceiling, a wall or in a corner. Earlier this month, Aqara presented radar sensors and other spatial sensing products at CEDIA Expo 2026 (opens in a new tab).
