What the Deco X68 is built to fix
- Two Deco units cover up to 5,500 sq. ft. and connect up to 150 devices.
- Each unit has two Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired gadgets.
- Check that your modem is a standalone modem before setup.
If your current router drops out in the back bedroom or the kitchen, this two-pack is aimed at that exact problem. The units form one network that hands your devices to whichever one is closer as you move around, so a video call does not have to freeze in the hallway.
TP-Link lists the pair as covering up to 5,500 square feet, which suits a typical multi-floor house or a long apartment where a single router cannot reach both ends. Each unit carries two Gigabit Ethernet ports, handy for a desktop or a game console that you would rather wire.
The newer WiFi 6 standard and tri-band design are the reasons we would consider this over an older mesh kit. They let the system talk to more devices at once, with a listed capacity of up to 150, which covers phones, laptops, smart plugs and streaming boxes without everything fighting for airtime.
What $152.97 gets you on this deal
The price is $152.97, which is $31.61 below the typical price of $184.58 over the last 90 days. That is about 17% off, and it makes the two-pack cheaper than plenty of single high-end routers.
Each package includes the two Deco units and the cables needed to get started. There is no monthly fee for HomeShield's basic features, which include a security scan, IoT device identification, parental controls, quality-of-service settings and weekly or monthly reports. The premium tier costs extra if you decide you want it later.

Room fit, setup and what to check
Placement matters more than specs here. Put one unit near your modem and the other about halfway to the weak spot, not in the weak spot itself, since the second one still needs a strong link back to the first.
Setup runs through the Deco app, which walks you through naming the network and adding units. If you already own older Deco hardware, it can join the same mesh, so a mixed set is possible.
The system works with any ISP modem and internet service that delivers up to 1 Gbps, and it is backward compatible with older WiFi devices. Two things worth confirming before you buy: whether your current modem is just a modem or also a router, since that changes what you turn off, and where you would plug each unit into power.
When this mesh kit is the wrong buy
Skip it if you have a very small home or a single-room apartment where one router already handles everything. Two units would be one more box to power and place for no real gain.
Also pass if your internet plan runs well past 1 Gbps and you want to use that full speed over WiFi. This system is listed for plans up to 1 Gbps, so a faster plan is money spent on bandwidth the mesh cannot pass along.
If you need Ethernet in more than two rooms, count the ports. Each Deco has two Gigabit ports, so a wired desktop plus a console fills one unit completely.
