The job this system is built for
- You need a cable internet plan and a modem activated through your provider. Contact your provider before setup. Not compatible with fiber, DSL or satellite internet.
- Set up and manage the network with the Orbi mobile app, available for iPhone and Android, or through a web browser.
If your cable internet currently runs through a separate modem and router, this combo replaces both with a router and satellite that share one WiFi network. Devices move from room to room without you picking a new network, which is the practical difference for a household spread across a house.
NETGEAR rates the pair for open layouts up to 5,000 sq. ft. and 40 or more devices, so we'd consider it for a family home with phones, laptops, streaming players and a couple of workstations online at once. Walls, floors and nearby interference can cut into that range, so the number is a starting point rather than a guarantee.
An optional RBS750 satellite can add roughly 2,500 sq. ft. if one unit doesn't reach a far room.
What this price means
At $280.02, this deal sits $25.26 below the typical price over the last 90 days, which is about 8 percent off. The table below shows those numbers.
The Orbi app for iOS or Android, or a web browser, handles setup and device management, so you don't need to know your way around a router admin page. If a connection drops, restart the hardware and give it a couple of minutes before troubleshooting further.

Placement and what to check before you buy
Plan for two power outlets and a coax connection where the modem router sits. The satellite only needs power, so it can go in a room where WiFi tends to fall off. Keep both units out of closed cabinets if you can, because metal and dense walls are common reasons coverage shrinks.
There are four Gigabit Ethernet ports on the modem router and two on the satellite. Those are worth using for a gaming console, a desktop or a streaming box that would rather be wired than share airtime.
Check your cable plan before ordering. This system carries Xfinity certification to 900 Mbps and Spectrum and Cox certification to 1 Gbps, so a faster plan won't be matched by the hardware.
When this Orbi is the wrong fit
We'd skip it if your home is served by fiber, DSL or satellite internet. The modem side is built for cable coax and won't work with those connections.
Also think twice if your internet plan runs well above the certified speeds for your provider, or if you already own a modem you're happy with and only need a router. A standalone mesh router would cover that job for less.
Finally, NETGEAR Armor comes as a 30-day free trial, and continuing after that requires a separate subscription. Decide whether you want that ongoing cost before you build it into your setup.
