What this dehumidifier handles

Before bringing it home
  • Before bringing it home: confirm you have a drain low enough for gravity flow, since the included hose is 3.3 ft.
  • Check whether your space stays above 42°F. Auto-defrost runs down to that point, which matters in an unheated cellar.

The Waykar CTH150A pulls up to 150 pints of moisture a day at 95°F and 90% RH, which is the kind of load a damp basement or a whole humid floor throws at a machine. It covers up to 7,000 sq. ft., so if your problem area is a finished lower level, a laundry room or several connected rooms, this is sized for it.

Comfort Mode takes over the guesswork. The unit reads the room and holds 55% RH below 65°F, 50% RH between 65°F and 77°F, and 45% RH above 77°F, with ±5% accuracy. You can also set your own target anywhere from 30% to 80% RH.

We'd consider this a fit for a homeowner who wants one unit to serve a large, consistently damp space without chasing a tank every few hours. The removable tank works, but the included 3.3-ft hose is the better daily setup for a basement.

What $329.99 buys you here

At $329.99, this sits about $21.05 below the typical price over the last 90 days of $351.04, roughly 6% off. That is a modest discount on a large-capacity unit, not a dramatic markdown.

The bigger long-term number is electricity. Waykar says this model uses 40% less power than comparable units under the 2025 Energy Star standard, and that claim is why the rating is worth weighing against a cheaper non-rated box. What you'd pay per month depends on your utility rate and run hours, so check your own rate before you compare.

Draining, filter care and running costs

You have two drainage paths. The tank is removable, and the included 3.3-ft hose gives hands-free draining if you can route it to a floor drain or sump. For longer runs, a garden hose with a 12.7mm inside diameter extends the reach, and that hose is not included.

The mesh screen is washable and reusable, which keeps filter replacement out of your budget. Check the manufacturer's stated rinse or clean interval before you buy if that matters to you, and confirm whether the tank or hose setup works with your floor layout.

Noise is the other daily factor. Waykar rates low operation at 40dB and a maximum of 55dB, so a bedroom or study placement is plausible on the low setting. If it will sit next to where you sleep, that low figure is the one to plan around.

When this unit is the wrong fit

Skip it if your space is a small bedroom or a single closet. A 150-pint machine is oversized for that job, and you'd be paying for capacity and footprint you don't need.

It's also the wrong call if your crawlspace or garage drops below 42°F for long stretches. Auto-defrost helps down to that point, but a cold-space dehumidifier is a different tool. Check your winter low before deciding.

If you can't route a hose and don't want to empty a tank, this becomes a chore rather than a fix. Sort out drainage first, then buy.
